Disease activity and pregnancy associated a 2 - glycoprotein in rheumatoid arthritis during pregnancy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Methods Fourteen patients with rheumatoid arthritis were studied during pregnancy and clinical disease activity and serum concentrations of pregnancy associated a2-glycoprotein (PAG) measured at monthly intervals until parturition. Disease activity diminished during pregnancy in 10 patients (group 1) and increased or remained unchanged in four (group 2). The mean PAG concentration produced by group 1 was 1250±737 mg/l, which was significantly higher than the mean of 470 ±304 mg/l produced by group 2. Furthermore, there was a highly significant negative correlation coefficient (r=-0-41; p <0-001) between disease activity and PAG concentrations during gestation. Since there was no significant difference between the two groups of patients in any of the other serum factors measured, and since PAG has immunosuppressive properties in vitro, the results suggest that this protein may play an important part in inducing the remissions of rheumatoid arthritis which frequently occur during pregnancy.

متن کاملFab glycosylation of immunoglobulin G does not associate with improvement of rheumatoid arthritis during pregnancy
BACKGROUND Changes in immunoglobulin G (IgG) constant domain (Fc) glycosylation are associated with changes in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity in response to pregnancy. Here, we sought to determine whether the same holds true for variable domain (Fab) glycosylation. METHODS IgGs were captured from RA and control sera obtained before (RA only), during and after pregnancy, followed b...
متن کاملIs pregnancy a risk factor in the causation of rheumatoid arthritis?
It is well established that the physiological changes in pregnancy can affect the course of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Thus pregnancy is associated with remission of the disease in the last trimester, which frequently relapses after delivery.' This may be explained by the large rise in female sex hormone concentration and the subsequent fall postnatally. The disease suppression has also been re...
متن کاملMannose-binding lectin does not explain the course and outcome of pregnancy in rheumatoid arthritis
INTRODUCTION Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) improves during pregnancy and flares after delivery. It has been hypothesized that high levels of the complement factor mannose-binding lectin (MBL) are associated with a favourable disease course of RA by facilitating the clearance of pathogenic immunoglobulin G (IgG) lacking galactose sugar moieties. During pregnancy, increased galactosylation of IgG and...
متن کاملGlucocorticoid receptor gene polymorphisms and disease activity during pregnancy and the postpartum period in rheumatoid arthritis
INTRODUCTION The mechanism underlying the spontaneous improvement of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) during pregnancy and the subsequent postpartum flare is incompletely understood, and the disease course varies widely between pregnant RA patients. In pregnancy, total and free levels of cortisol increase gradually, followed by a postpartum decrease to prepregnancy values. The glucocorticoid receptor ...
